Thanks for posting! My husband and I are looking into doing our own beehives and this was something we weren’t sure about. We presently have a beekeeper on site and he is teaching us everything we need to know to get keep an established hive happy and healthy, but this was something he couldn’t show us. Thanks for the info Eric! Always great stuff.

  2. Sweet sponsorship, dude! Great video too!

  3. [...] can watch our video: How to hive a package of bees here. The bees in the package are surrounding the queen cage and the sugar feeder in the box [...]

  4. Your videos are very informative! My first year I used the spray and pour method with mixed results. Last year I installed the queen cage as your did and then just put the shipping box into the hive where 5 frames would go and then removed the feeder can and closed up the hive for 24 hours. When I came back, 99.9% of the bees had migrated into the available frames. Pulling out the box and replacing the other 5 frames was extremely easy as all the bees were on the other side of the hive. This was a lot less stressful on both the bees and on the amiture beekeeper (me). Keep up the good work!

  5. Hey guys, I enjoy your website and thanks for helping me out. As of this afternoon I hived my first bee package. Watching your video gave me a better idea what to do and expect. Everything went well and the girls are settling down in their new home. One did manage to get under my veil. I played it cool for awhile as she flew all around my face, nose hair, back of my neck. However things tool a turn for the worse when she tried to enter my ear. Naturally I freaked and whacked myself on the side of the head afterwards she managed to sting my earlobe. Man that hurts. Oh well, I ‘m no longer a beekeeping virgin I guess. Keep the videos coming, my 18month old son Justin loves the dogs!! :-)
    Have fun……..
