I think this is called a Dump Cake Recipe. I had a can of peaches and wanted to make a dessert with them. So I asked on Twitter for a peach dessert recipe, and @writersinthesky answered with this simple peach cake recipe. Here is her site, and her podcast.

Watch here as we make this simple peach dessert recipe that tastes great.

Peach Cake Recipe

1 cup self rising flour
OR 1 cup all purpose flour + 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt

1 stick of butter

1 cup milk

1 cup sugar – you can use less sugar, this cake is pretty sweet

1 can of peaches, drained, light syrup preferred, 20-24 oz

Preheat the oven to 375F

Put the stick of butter in a 9×9 baking dish, preferably a glass dish, and place in the oven to melt the butter.

Mix together the dry ingredients, then add the milk and mix.

Pour the batter into the heated baking dish with the melted butter, then add the can of peaches.

Bake at 375 for 30-40 minutes. The cake is done when a knife comes out clean.

Thanks Eric, and thanks to @writersinthesky. This looks delicious, kind of reminds me of Dump Cake. I will definitely be trying this one.

Thanks for featuring my grandmother’s peace cobbler recipe. I like the way you add such flair to your cooking. It reminds me of how she and I have always made this recipe. The clumped up sugar add a nice texture. If you want the cake to be more of a cobbler, don’t drain the peaches. The extra liquid will make it spoonable.

Love the labs as they patiently wait for the butter to melt.

    looks great!!
it looks like you don’t mix the batter into the butter, or the peaches into the batter. are you supposed to just pour them in so that the butter stays at the bottom and the peaches at the top?

  4. Tim says:

Yes, this reminds me of the cherry dump cake my wife makes. I can’t wait to give this one a try.

  5. Pat Murphy says:

Eric if you store your sugar (brown or white) in an airtight container you will avoid those rock lumps that develop from the humidity. That’s a nice container you have, but if you use a plastic resealable bag inside that sugar canister, it will help.
Looks like a nice easy cake you made, will have to give it a try!

I wasn’t planning to make dessert tonight because I was pretty much out of everything, but your cake demo looked too easy, fun, and delicious to pass up! I used pineapple chunks, no sugar, and the family loved it! Thanks for all the great videos and info!

I tried doubling the recipe and it didn’t turn out at all. I was disappointed because Eric made it look so good and so easy. I’ll definitely have to try again but a single batch only. Thanks for the recipe.

  10. Mikehattan says:

Nice, mine turned out perfect, even without the ‘homemade’ baking powder, which seems like a make work thing….Oh, and it is so much better without the off camera comments.

Loved the recipie I tried it very tasty!! Love the clumpy sugar, its just like mine. I know in Louisiana its just so humid here just about everything clumps but I dont know about up north where you are. Hug the dogs for me!!!

  12. Tim says:

I made this and it was a big hit and so easy! Top marks.

For Brown sugar there is a brown sugar bear (http://www.sugarbearsinc.com/) These are awesome!!! I live in Nebraska and it can get quite humid here as well. I would also agree with Pat Murphy that storing it in an air tight container helps as well.

Sorry, here is the picture of my finished peach cake-

Help!! I’ve tried this 3 times and it will not come out for me. It’s always way too liquidy. I follow the recipe. I used a big can of peaches drained. 27 or 29 oz.
I only have an 8 inch pan but the last time I baked it extra long. and it was soooo wet. Am I using the wrong size of peaches. Eric used a 24 oz jar. I checked them out in the store. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

  16. Kyle says:

I have made it twice now, both times with fresh peaches. The first time was good and the second time worked, but I pulled an Eric. I grabbed the wrong bag and put in powdered sugar instead of backing powder. It turned out ok, just not a cake.
