Tomatoes in Madrid

My friend Brian, who helps shoot Gardenfork, is in Madrid for the summer, shooting a documentary about these village painting contests held all over Spain. He sent me some pictures of his tomato plants on his balcony, and they are not doing well. Any suggestions?

  1. They look too wet. Tomatoes actually like being a little bit thirsty. That’s been my experience. The fruit gets much sweeter if the soil dries out just a bit. I only water my tomatoes one a week. If they get a good rain, I don’t water them at all.
