My Smoker Has No Fire In It : GardenFork Radio

Eric wings it solo, as Mike is busy with the real world of work. We talk about salt water fishing inspired by an article by Keith Wagstaff of EdibleBrooklyn on East River Fishing &  Ben Sargent of brooklynchowdersurfer.com . A lengthy honeybee & beekeeping update, Daniel Delaney's new venture, EatersDigestNYC.com a weekly email about food events in New York City, Tracy skypes in to talk about single serving brownies, Julie and Tim Kirby call in to talk about bees, home made liquor, and harvesting berries. Julie's website is http://www.fiddlesticks.uk.net

    Single Serve Brownie
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons  beaten egg  (give the leftover beaten egg to your dog)
    ¼ teaspoon vanilla
    2 tablespoons flour
    1 pinch salt
    2 tablespoons chopped nuts
    ·          Melt the butter in the microwave.
    ·          Add the cocoa, mix until blended.
    ·          Add the sugar and mix well. 4 Stir in the egg substitute and the vanilla.
    ·          Add the flour and salt and stir until just blended.
    ·         Add nuts if desired.
    ·         Pour batter into a greased ramekin ( I use a 5 inch round, 1 inch deep terra cotta bowl – makes a thin but tasty brownie!). Bake at 350 for 10 – 15 minutes. Top will be shiny and the sides of the brownie will start to pull away from the edge of the pan when it is done.

      Hi Eric,
You should consider inoculating the birch trees with Chaga. It is an amazing medicinal mushroom with many healing properties including preventing cancer.
I love your show, in particular, cooking and gardening tv. I'm really interested in gardening "how-to" videos, how to grow fruit trees and vegetables from seed. In other words, learning how step-by-step to go from garden to fork. How to plan a gardening space. Special care for various types of plants, natural pest control, etc... Permaculture techniques. Looking forward to more great tips from the show. Thanks!

Excellent show! The single serving brownie recipe looks great. Perhaps a person could lose weight?:) Loved the way you did the show going solo. The guests added much too.

Judging by the title, I thought there was going to be some discussion about issues using a charcoal smoker. Guess the world doesn't revolve around BBQ after all.

Liked the show. Not hate mail, but... Lake Erie is now very clean. I have been eating fish out of it for 25+ years. They have done tons of clean up since the whole river fire thing. Our Zebra Mussel problem has also made the water pretty clear. Anyways just some info. Keep up the good work. Thanks for doing it.

the comparison of Lake Erie and the Hudson and East Rivers was meant to mean how all of them have been cleaned up. I'm not suggesting Lake Erie is polluted now. thx, eric

Mike was missed - but you did just fine !
I enjoyed the sibling exchange - it makes for good homey radio - just what I like to hear on Gardenfork. I do think you were uncomfortable by yourself, but, I also think the more you do it by yourself, the more comfortable you'll be. We like you Eric - we like hearing you talk !
